ImmigrationWorks California

ImmigrationWorks California is a coalition of California trade associations and employers dedicated to sensible reform of the nation’s immigration system through education and political action.

Our mission is to secure thoughtful and comprehensive immigration reform in Congress. This reform should carefully address economic, security, and humanitarian interests through a campaign of respectful public discussion between California business leaders, other interest groups, and public officials. In addition to working for comprehensive immigration reform on the national level, we are dedicated to working together to oppose any state or local legislation that would impose unreasonable burdens on California employers in connection with addressing the problem of illegal immigrants.

ImmigrationWorks California believes that the choice on immigration is clear; it’s between a realistic, comprehensive solution and piecemeal failure. We can’t just build walls around a broken system; rather, we must fix the system in several areas to achieve security, restore law and order, and make sure we have enough workers to continue growing California’s economy.

But we need your help to get there. We invite you to join our efforts to speak up for California’s employers of essential workers. You can do this by clicking the Join button on this page.

Principles

  • Enhanced Border Security, Reliable and Accurate Screening of Workers, Effective Disincentives for Illegal Immigration, and Reasonable Enforcement Actions against Employers—Improved enforcement is necessary, but it cannot work in the absence of an overall comprehensive reform package. Enforcement actions against employers must not penalize them for their past inability to comply with a broken system.
  • A Just Resolution of the Legal Status of Undocumented Employees—Immigrant workers keep large sectors of our economy functioning. They work hard and bring a self-starting, independent, and entrepreneurial spirit to California. Many of our businesses couldn’t survive without them! These individuals should be given a path to citizenship provided they meet certain conditions.
  • A Future Flow of Essential Workers—A process must be established to provide temporary foreign workers in numbers sufficient to fill jobs that native-born workers will not take—without displacing American workers. This process should be market driven and adjustable, depending on the needs of our economy.

California Voters

We know from studies and polls that our views are in sync with those of most Californians. Contrary to the impression one gets from watching or listening to media talk shows, most Californians believe illegal immigrants have a net positive effect on the state, support a guest workers program to allow more foreign workers to come here under controlled conditions, and favor the creation of programs for illegal immigrants that would legalize their status. We are in the majority, and our cause is a good one for California and the nation. That is why we will be successful.
